Lee-Ann Assalone, Animal Care Specialist

Lee-Ann with "Nicolai" before his adoption
Lee-Ann Assalone, Animal Care Specialist, came for her interview at Southside with a fresh loaf of bread and a heart longing to work with animals in a caring environment, with a veterinarian who has a heart and a staff that was a team. When she left her interview she knew that this was the place. We ate her bread and decided to hire her. Her many intuitive gifts with animals and her experience only re-enforced what she already knew-she belongs here!
Lee-Ann is an Indiana native. She graduated from North High School in 1998. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender Studies from Indiana University. She has worked as a Client Service Assistant and Adoption Counselor in California, served as a veterinary technician at a high volume spay and neuter clinic in Indianapolis, and as an Animal Control Officer in South Bend.
Lee-Ann is an advocate for animals on all levels. She is working toward certification in Healing Touch for Animals and hopes to use these skills in her work here. She says she is an "info junkie" who loves to research and question why. She often serves as a foster mom for our furry friends who are waiting to find the right home.
Lee-Ann is "Mom" to Busted, a cat who was rescued when his owner literally kicked him out his front door and LuLu another rescued kitty. Both are eleven years old.
